Cobalt Raq3 How to

Clean OS restore for Cobalt Raq3

step one- download ISO/burn cd

step two- boot PC with compatible nic with new cd from ISO. This can be tricky. I just happen to have an old IBM Desktop PC with the required nic...I've also heard that a work around can be used with a virtual pc and a serial cable... I'll post a link if I can find that solution again...

step three- follow the instructions (you'll have to spacebar through a few pages, then typ "y" to agree to terms, space bar some more to find instructions specifically for your Cobalt system, the Raq3 in this case.

step four- follow those steps
-- power up your Cobalt Raq3 while holding the "S" button
-- on the LCD screen, using the arrow keys, select "boot from net"
-- sit back and watch the LCD for errors (hold your breath!)
assuming that all went well

step five- again on the LCD screen and with the arrowkeys, enter the IP address for your Cobalt when requested.

step six- plug the ethernet cable attached to your Raq3 to your router/Lan/internet connection.

step seven- Power down the old PC. On any PC on your network, connect to your Raq3 with a web browser, type the IP into the address bar...

Flash the Rom

I flashed the rom to version 2.10-3...
Deets to follow...

Install Raq OS 4 on thr Raq3 (PHP!!!)

I was only able to install Raq4-OS after removing the harddrive and plugging it into my desktop (via usb-ide connection) and deleting all partitions, then placing back in the Raq3. Same installation process as for Os Raq3...

Installing additional packages- http://cobalt.ieserver.net/

in your web browser, navigate to your cobalts IP address...
Log in via your ftp account, upload the package(s). I uploaded to the directory /home/packages

install packages
open a terminal on your main pc, type
#telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
where 'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' is your cobalts IP address.. login with the admin and pass that you used to setup your Raq, then

#su -
#cd /home/packages
#/usr/local/sbin/cobalt_upgrade pkg-file-name.pkg
where "pkg-file-name.pkg" is actual package name, repeat for each...
