Solar cooking

First attempt...Try to boil water.

I've seen "solar ovens" and other solar cooking devices and the idea is fairly simple: focus as much sunlight on as much surface area of a black coloured device(the oven) and contain the heat in that device.
As a first attempt I thought I would try to boil water. I decided to use a stove top espresso maker, not only because it was the only black metal device I had lying around, but also because it would be obvious if I was successful: the water would be in the top if it had boiled.
I grabbed the espresso maker and set it up (sans coffee).

To make the "reflector", I grabbed a couple small boxes out of my recycling, cut them up and wrapped them in tinfoil, then stapled them together in sort of a cone shape. And sat it out in the sun.

After 20 minutes I had to shut the experiment down do to scheduling conflicts, however, at that time the water, and espresso maker, were hot to the touch. Not enough to burn me, boil the water, or make coffee, but definitely uncomfortably hot.

Will attempt again for a longer duration, then possibly again with some form of heat containment (heat resistant clear plastic bag).
